Dhaka Hoops
‘Dhaka’ textile is an integral part of Nepali culture. It was initially handwoven only in Palpa though now is handwoven in other parts of Nepal.
The textile is believed to have travelled to Nepal through Dambar Kumari (daughter ofJunga Bahadur Rana, P.M of Nepal) who lived in Banaras and used the handwoven Chamua Dhaka then made in the undivided Indian province of Bengal.
Woven in numerous colors and geometric shapes mostly in cotton yarns, are mostly famously used as Dhaka topi (cap), shawls and sarees.
